Anyone watch X factor on Saturday night? No. Me neither.
Heard it was 'rock week' - So I'm assuming they got the Led out? Tore up some Sabbath? Motorhead? Maiden? Smells like teen spirit?
No?
Oh, Purple Rain.
I'm not that bitter about it, honestly, I just think it's all a bit hilarious. In fact, I'm pleased they didn't hawk any Zeppelin or AC/DC songs because it would have been an insult to the credibility of those songwriters.
I recently watched an interview with Ed Sheeran and I have to say, I was profoundly impressed by him. What a gentleman. What an inspiration. He is living proof to all you hard working musicians out there that it can happen if you put the hours in. Gigging is the greatest way to get to the top. Working your little socks off, playing guitar 'til your fingers bleed and driving the neighbours crazy practising the drums is the fast (or slow) track to success. Well that and a little luck always helps...
I won't pretend I'm Ed Sheeran's number one fan, I don't listen to his music but I do admire his talent, and songwriting. I think he is a fantastic role model for all aspiring musicians, and artists.
I've grown up around a lot of aritists, and watched friends, family, boyfriends, strive and struggle desperate to make it in the music industry. Everyone I've ever known who has achieved success has not been without their downs, tears and the 'i'm just gonna give it up' tears.
If you have talent, passion, determination and persistence you never know you might just be the next Robert Plant, Joni Mitchell or Ed Sheeran...
